Seeing as the E.A. region has been a growth leader in Africa, it is therefore fair to say that the region is an ideal investment destination to both local and foreign investors. At the heart of all these investment opportunities are the capital markets, capable of steering social and economic development and further the growth in the region.

Within the E.A region, there exist four (4) stock exchanges (and an anticipated new Stock Exchange in Burundi) each operating in well-structured capital markets ecosystem. These exchanges collaborate under the ambit of an Association called the East African Securities Exchanges Association (EASEA).

EASEA was established to facilitate a concerted effort for the advancement of the region’s financial market and subsequently contribute to their respective economic prosperity. Presently, the EASEA exchanges service approximately eleven (11) key sectors across the region which contributes significantly to their national Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

However, there are some key sectors within the region that are yet to discover the full opportunities available within the capital market. Given a chance, sectors such as infrastructure and energy have the ability to transform the real economy and living standards alike.

It is in this background that EASEA will host an Inaugural Capital Markets Day on May 23-24, 2019 themed: Showcasing East Africa’s Economic Vibrancy and the capital market’s place within the region. This theme will analyze existing economic and developmental opportunities within E.A and the role of the capital markets as a catalyst in advancing the region’s agenda. This multi-stakeholder forum will elicit impactful debates for the growth of E.A. by engaging in conversations that will accelerate investment opportunities.

The forum will be characterized by plenary sessions, B2B and G2B and Partner Exhibition.

Some of the topics to be tackled comprehensively at the event will include:

    • Showcasing E.A. Region
    • What are East Africa’s bankable projects and what financing options are available?
    • How to invest in E. Africa
    • Role of Capital Market in mobilizing developmental resources
    • What investment incentives available within the E.A. capital market
    • Disruptive Technology and expected impact in E.A. capital market
    • Technology as an enabler of efficient markets in E.A.
