The national commodity exchange will be operational by October according to Trade Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya. Speaking at the National Trade Week at KICC, Munya said the commodity exchange will allow farmers to sell their produce at real-time market prices and in the process eliminate the role of the middlemen.
Kenya's central bank lowered its Central Bank Rate (CPR) by another 50 basis points to 9.00 percent, saying there was room for a more accommodative monetary policy as economic output remains below potential even as economic prospects are improving and inflation expectations are well anchored within the target range.
The Kenyan government has decided to create an agricultural and non-agricultural exchange according to the Principal Secretary at the State Department of Trade Chris Kiptoo.
Central Bank has retained the base lending rate at 9.5 per cent arguing that the economy needs more time to benefit from the limit set in March.
