    Weekly trading update at Uganda Securities Exchange

    The Uganda Securities Exchange (USE) recorded a weekly turnover of sh466.1m after more than 4.87 million shares changed hands across eight counters.

    However, the performance was a decline from the previous week’s turnover of nearly 1b across more than 12.01 million shares traded according to Crested Capital. 

    Umeme led trading activity, accounting for sh276m in turnover with 666,255 shares exchanged. Stanbic Holdings traded sh84.14m from 1.83 million shares.

    Airtel Uganda exchanged sh37.44m from 0.4 million shares, while Bank of Baroda Uganda Limited (BOBU) moved sh37.01m in turnover from 1.67 million shares.

    MTN Uganda exchanged sh23.26m from 0.09 million shares, and dfcu Limited traded sh6.24m. Uganda Clays (UCL) and NIC Holdings Limited (NIC) collectively traded sh1.59m.

    On price movements in the market, three counters registered price movements. Airtel Uganda gained 0.73% to close at sh94.02 per share. DFCU added 0.42% to end at sh239.

    MTN declined by 4.19% to sh257.73. Other counters remained unchanged: BOBU closed at sh22.25, NIC at sh5, New Vision at sh152.00, Quality Chemicals Industries Limited (QCIL) at sh85.50, Stanbic at sh46.00, UCL at sh7.90, and Umeme at sh415 per share.

    Among cross-listed counters, East Africa Breweries Limited (EABL) was the sole gainer, rising 1.60% to sh5,296.23. Jubilee Holdings dropped 7.31% to sh5,770.20, Centum Investments fell 5.15% to sh375.24, Nation Media Group declined 3.93% to sh395.06, KCB Group shed 3.88% to sh1,202.18, Kenya Airways lost 3.51% to sh146.13, and Equity Group Holdings decreased 2.41% to sh1,340.95.

    The USE All Share Index (ALSI) declined by 1.72% to close at 1305.23, while the local companies index dropped 1.56% to 124.51.
