BRVM admitted to the MSCI Frontier Markets Index

The Regional Stock Exchange (BRVM) has been admitted to the MSCI Frontier Markets "MSCI Frontier Markets Index" in recognition of the significant change in its capitalisation and liquidity over the past three years.

The financial services company Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) announced May 12, 2016 the admission of the WAEMU MSCI Index to the MSCI Frontier Markets Index. BRVM joins the group of African stock exchanges that make up "Frontier Markets", namely Nigeria, Kenya, Morocco, Mauritius and Tunisia.

This action comes almost two years after the creation of the "Standalone" MSCI WAEMU Index which is dedicated to the financial market of the West Africa Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) and accessible to subscribers of the financial information flows from MSCI.

BRVM has just reached one of the major objectives of its development plan.

This inclusion of BRVM in the "Frontier Markets Index" will become effective in November 2016 at the semi-annual review of the MSCI indexes.

Dr. Edoh Kossi AMENOUNVE, Chief Executive Officer of BRVM and DC/BR, emphasised that, “The inclusion of BRVM in Frontier Markets is for us an important step. It is probably the result of our promotion and development actions in recent years, but is also a testimonial to the confidence of regional and international investors in our market which is developing in a favourable environment supported by strong economic growth in the countries of WAEMU."
